Today you'll write a blog post to experiment with and analyze style.
1. Choose a short paragraph from TS/IS. Either dress it up or dress it down -- that is, make the style either more formal or less formal.
P.48
Blend the Author's Words With Your Own
The above materials also works well because it presents bordo's words in exact way and it gives those words the writer's own thought.
I found the passage refers many times to the key concept of dieting, and how it echoes Bordo's references to " television" and to U.S. and British" broadcasting by referring to "culture", which is further specified as"western" rather than simply repeating bordo word for word, the follow-up sentences respond enough of her language and still making the discussion moving in the writer's own direction. In effect, the framing makes some high mix of Bordo;s words and those of the writer.
2a. Choose a piece of writing from the NR Album of Styles. Give a short description of the writing style. What makes this sound different from other texts? What do you notice about sentence structure, word choice, and tone?
To Write Well
This article is written very clearly and always get to the core point.
It is different from other articles, because this article mainly focus on suggestion. The arthor gives suggestions on how to write well and he also uses appropriate examples to elaborate.
The writer wrote this article in a formal way, but the words chosen by him are formal but not very academic
2b. Now take the same piece of writing you've just analyzed and imitate its style. Write a paragraph or two of your own on a different topic (e.g., your sport, your job, dorm life -- it's up to you), but try to make your writing style sound like the writing style of the NR selection.
For a man to have a healthy body, there are required three necessaries: to eat healthy, do exercises everyday and keep a very good mood. Those are three very important things. thoes are very easy things for us to keep on.
