1. p 31 second paragraph

In order to write a well written summary, you must be able to disregard your own beliefs for a short period of time and imagine yourself from another viewpoint.  In other words, as theorist Peter Elbow suggests, to the best of your ability attempt to view the argument from more than one position.  If you affectively temporarily suspend your own convictions readers should not be able to foresee which ideas you are agreeing or disagreeing with.

2a. p 594-595 Ben Jonson: To Write Well

The author Ben Jonson, uses a more formal word selection and format approach.  I believe the formal approach that he takes doesn't necessarily help him to connect to his readers on a personal level.  Some of the information that he is trying to express may get lost while a reader is reading his passage because of the high intellectual context.  Since Ben Jonson chose to write in a more formal way, I think it was easy to picture an older man writing this text because he may have been unaware of popular language of this time period.  His writing style makes his passage seem old or intended for an older audience.
