1.) This doesn't mean that the way you talk with your friends is okay for academic writing. but it also doesn't say that using the colloquial style is an excuse for not learning more formal ways of writing. Learning these more formal ways of expression and to deepen you knowledge if a main reason why people choose to get an education. It is suggested that using the colloquial language can actually enhance ones academic writing by helping the writer connect with his/her readers and making it easier for the reader to relate and understand what is written. So this being said, it is a mistake to think that the academic language and everyday language can not be used together.(p.122)
2a.) John Donne: No Man Is an Island.
The writing style is not to inform you but more to make you think. More to drive home a point rather than inform you of something. It is different form the other writing style because the others are more informative and telling you something, this passage makes you think and lets you almost come up with your own meaning for it. The tone in this passage seems almost gloomy and kind of sad in a way seeing as how it talks about death and being part of something will make it easier to pass on.
2b.) Being part of a dive team is tough, diving is mainly an individual sport. But the team aspect is one of the most important parts. You're team feeds of off you, if you're down they're down. When you succeed you open the door way for your teammates to succeed. You need to also help them over come fears. Jumping off of a tower 33 feet high is no easy task. Even if you're scared to you need to show them that its okay to jump, show them to trust themselves by trusting yourself.
